EDUCATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Aquaculture in Washington County

Washington County Aquaculture Development Initiative

MAIC is leading a multi-year initiative focused on strengthening aquaculture businesses, workforce development, and industry education in Washington County. Supported by funding from the Northern Border Regional Commission, the project is carried out in partnership with the Maine Center for Entrepreneurs, Sunrise County Economic Council, Washington County Community College, and the Downeast Institute.

The initiative supports a range of programs, workshops, and community events designed to expand access to aquaculture education, business development resources, and career pathways in the region. Past efforts have included Pre-Flight, an aquaculture business development program for early-stage entrepreneurs, as well as educational outreach events such as the Aquaculture Fair at Washington Academy and Shell-Ebration at the Downeast Institute, which highlighted emerging aquaculture species and industry opportunities.

Additional programs and events are shared through MAIC’s Events page and social media channels throughout the year.
