Vibrio in Maine: Minimizing Risk

The Maine Department of Marine Resources implemented expanded Vibrio regulations for oysters in 2024 primarily due to an illness outbreak in the summer of 2023. This discussion covers what Vibrio is, where it lives, how it thrives, and what harvesters and dealers can do to reduce the risk of illness for consumers. (Spoiler alert, you just have to cool oysters quickly and keep them cold!)
